Local artists are banding together to raise funds for the 48,000 people made homeless by last months earthquake in the city of L’Aquila, Italy.

The benefit organised by local musicians and community leaders, will take place on Sunday May 24 at the Coburg Town Hall Doors Open at 5pm.

A fantastic initiative from Moreland Council....

Moreland City Council, Commuter Cycles and Lygon Cycles want to see more cyclists on the road this winter - and are working together to make it happen with a "Lights On Ride On" promotion campaign.

The end of Daylight Savings means its getting dark earlier. Its time to get visible - and that means looking at your lights, replacing the batteries and replacing lights that have seen better days. We want you to get new lights so you can enjoy riding all year round.

Urgent Supplies - Tioletries
RRR radio station in Brunswick East is supporting a toiletries drive to be delivered to the major “base camp” refuges in the fire zone.
You can “drop-off” your donations at Triple R (corner of Nicholson & Blyth Streets, East Brunswick; end of 96 tram line) on WEDNESDAY of this week, during office hours: 10am to 6pm.

Offers of housing and accommodation
To assist victims of the fires with finding accommodation the Department of Human Services has set up the Victorian Bushfire Accommodation Donation Line.
The government has set up a call centre to accept offers from the general public for accommodation that could be made available. Many offers have already been made to regions which will be provided to the call centre to coordinate centrally.

Condolence Books
A condolence book has been set up for members of the public to exopress their sorrow for the victims and thanks for all the workers and volunteers at Parliament House.
The condolence book will also be available at MPs electorate offices from this afternoon. Your local MPs and their numbers and adderesses are:

The 2009 Victorian bushfire Fund to assist individuals and communities affected by devastating bushfires in Victoria has been launched by the Premier John Brumby in partnership with Red Cross and the Federal Government.

Council is considering spending tens of millions of dollars on a new sports hub on industrial land adjacent to Clifton Park.

 This may lead to the relocation of existing sporting clubs to the proposed new location. What will be the effect on your local community if this occurs?

Moreland Council has prepared a draft Brunswick Structure Plan to guide the development of Brunswick over the next 22 years. The structure plan includes the picture below.

What are the implications of buying more land and spending these resources for sport in Brunswick, and the make up of Gillon, Clifton and Brunswick Parks?

Moreland City Council is holding a series of community meetings and opportunities for people to express their views about the redevelopment of the Brunswick Baths on:

Untapped is an uncoming benefit to raise money for Melbourne Citymission at the Retreat Hotel on Sunday February 4th. According to the website it

creates a platform from which Melbourne's bands and singers looking for a kick-start in their career can fully express their music by performing live within the community.

The inaugural event will be held at The Retreat Hotel in Brunswick, and will feature live performances from 10 bands, Sunday afternoon drinks and a fundraising barbeque.

Melbourne City Mission is a Melbourne non-profit organisation seeking to take a lead role in creating inclusive and resourceful communities, where opportunity and fairness are embraced as a way of life. They provide resources and choices to those who are marginalised and living with disadvantage, delivering services that respect the rights of individuals and embrace diversity.

Tickets are $13 on the door and it begins at 2pm.

The junior section of the Brunswick Hockey Club runs a Hook In2 Hockey program to introduce young kids to the game of hockey. The next program will start this Monday 29th May, 4:45pm 5:45pm. The program will be held on Mondays and will run from 29 May to 7 August with a break for the Queens Birthay long weekend (12 June) and the school holidays (19 & 26 June). This means the program will run for 2 weeks before the holidays and then continue for 6 weeks after.
