A Fair Deal for Cleaners

Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union members are gearing up for the launch of a new campaign to improve conditions for office cleaners.

The Clean Start - Fair Deal for Cleaners campaign will provide a voice to the low-waged largely immigrant female workforce, in ten different cities across Australia and New Zealand, who are calling on big property owners to support decency in their workplaces.

Governing for all?

As Workchoices Day rolls around (the day when Australia moves from a workplace system based on fairness to one based on the laws of the jungle) the ACTU has released poll findings showing that many Australians think that the Howard Government is acting in the interests of big business over that of working Australians.

Not that this revelation is a great surprise.

Defending Rights at Work in our Local Community

Last night a meeting of community & union activists met and formed the Moreland Union & Community Solidarity Network. The purpose of the network is to work in our local community to help defend our rights at work from the predatory legislation and regulations of the Howard Government.

The network has been formed with the assistance of Union Solidarity and will be developing a plan of activities to focus broad community opposition to Howard's work laws in the coming months.
