Victoria will become home to the world’s largest solar power station of its kind with an 800 hectare, 154 megawatt plant proposed for the state’s north-west.
Solar Systems Generation will build the largest photovoltaic and most efficient solar power station in the world generating electricity at one-sixth of the cost of conventional solar power. This uses technology known as Heliostat Concentrator Photovoltaic (HCPV) which uses mirrors to reflect the sun’s rays into a receiver that converts sunlight into energy.
The new solar station will supply enough pwoer to supply 45,000 homes.

The Bracks Government today released a comprehensive plan to increase Melbourne’s water supplies by more than 260,000 megalitres per year by 2055 to meet the challenges of climate change and population growth over the next 50 years.
Securing enough water to meet the demands of climate change and a growing population was one of the greatest challenges Victoria faces.

Victorian Premier Steve Bracks has announced a major upgrade of tech wings in all Government secondary schools to ensure students have the best possible choices for their future.
The $50 million initiative would give students access to the latest equipment and skills training in Government schools.
Labor will build new tech wings in 30 schools and modernise equipment in all others, in what is the largest once off rejuvenation of this area ever undertaken.

Today I announced a $35,000 Bracks Government project would skill up local clothing outworkers to become qualified pattern makers.
The project will help at least 10 outworkers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to upgrade their skills, which would in turn help meet a shortage of pattern makers in Victoria.

Today I joined the Minister for Education Services in announcing that the Bracks Government would join forces with the Brunswick Secondary College, Moreland City Council and the Brunswick Hockey Club to construct a million dollar multi-purpose playing field and changing rooms at Brunswick Secondary College.
The $500,000 contribution comes from the Bracks Government’s $30 million Community Facilities Fund (CFF), which allows schools to build or modernise facilities that can also be accessed by the broader community.

The Greens claim that they support wind power.
But now another Greens candidate has revealed her opposition to Wind Farms.
Why are the Greens lining up with the Liberal Party, National Party and the dirty energy lobby?
The policy difference is now clear - only Labor is committed to Victoria's energy future being clean and renewable.

Its a fairly busy week.
Today I address the Victorian Community Transport Association State Conference. Community Transport is an under utilised asset in our mix of public transport services, and one we are keen to make better use of.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Parliament is sitting. This week I will be leading debate on the Transport (Taxi Cab Accreditation and Other Amendments) Bill. The purpose of this law is to introduce an accreditation scheme into the taxi industry.
On Friday I will be travelling to Swinburn University to join newly elected Italian MP, Marco Fedi at a Dual Citizenship and Transnational Voting Rights Seminar. And in that evening Melbourne Victory begins its A-League season against Adelaide United.

Is Victorian Labor the only political party who supports renewable energy and wind energy?
While John Howard is busy talking up nuclear power, and the Victorian Liberals have an anti wind farm policy, one would expect the Greens to line up behind Labor's mandatory renewable energy target and wind energy.
According to The Age today, Greens Energy Spokesperson Louis Delacretaz is quoted as saying the Greens would stop wind farms like that in Bald Hills in Gippsland.
The Victorian Greens have promised to stop the construction of wind farms opposed by local residents, despite their policies of supporting renewable energy.
The first wind farm on the Greens' hit list will be the $220 million Bald Hills wind farm in South Gippsland, which was controversially vetoed earlier this year by the Federal Government over a perceived threat to the endangered orange-bellied parrot.
By lining up with the Liberal Party, the National Party and the dirty energy industry the Greens have shown that they are not serious about renewable energy or building a sustainable renewable energy industry.
We agree with Environment Minister, John Thwaites, who said, "This demonstrates that the Bracks Government has much stronger environmental credentials than the Greens."

John Howard and Ted Bailleu are continuing to sell out to the dirty energy lobby.
While John Howard continues to be the nuclear energy industry's chief salesman, Ted Bailleu has announced an anti wind farms policy.
John Howard and Ted Bailleu can’t have it both ways - claiming to be worried about climate change on one hand, but talking up nuclear and blocking wind farms on the other.
Only Labor has a policy supportive of both renewable energy, and hostile to the perils of nuclear power.
Only Labor has a forward thinking vision for our future energy needs.
