Solar Hotwater Investment to make stimulus last

The Brumby Government is taking action to help Victorians to do their bit for the environment and tackle climate change through rebates on solar hotwater systems and rainwater tanks.

Most Victorians will receive a payment of either $600 or $900. If this money is combined with one of the Brumby Government’s rebates the benefit to each Victorian household will last longer through lower water and energy bills.

I would urge families to think about how they can help to stimulate the Australian economy, support Victorian jobs including manufacturers, suppliers and tradespeople as well as protecting Victoria's environment and preparing for the carbon-constrained economy of the future.

To make the $600 or $900 stimulus payments go further:

• Families in Melbourne could combine a stimulus payment with a State rebate of up to $1500 and replace a natural gas or LPG water heater with a gas-boosted solar system;
• Add a stimulus payment to a State rebate of up to $1000 for a large rainwater tank connected to their toilet and laundry. This will cut their water use, and help support Victorian plumbers and retailers; or
• Spend the stimulus payment on new energy efficient appliances – taking advantage of discounts and special offers under the new Energy Saver Incentive Buyers Guide./li>
