Victoria's new plan for Higher Education

The plan provides for more university places each year, better access to those places, and a boost to research and development initiatives.

In these tough global times, building an internationally focused, sustainable and competitive economy driven by innovation, knowledge, skills and creativity is a priority.

The Brumby Government’s plan for Victoria’s higher education sector will focus on:

• Industry needs for higher education graduates into the future and the capacity of our institutions to meet economic and social priorities;
  
• The particular needs of regional and outer urban communities as well as the needs of institutions in terms of their locations and the populations they serve;
  
• Innovation and research needs and capacity; and
  
• The interface between higher education, vocational education and training and schools.
