Thursday, March 13. 2008Securing Funding for the Brunswick Baths: An Update In 2007 the Brunswick ALP Branch ran a campaign to bring the plight of the Brunswick Baths to public attention. 1000 people signed the petition either at the Sydney Road Street Party, at the baths or online. Council listened to the community and committed to renewing the Brunswick Baths and is now seeking State and Federal Government support. Plans have now been drawn up for a $15 million renewal that includes retaining the 50 metre pool, a toddler's pool, and expanded gym and recreation facilities. The “new” Brunswick Baths will cater for more visitors, will save water and will be Victoria’s first zero emissions aquatics centre. Brunswick City Baths is not just a pool, or a gym. It is a key facility and reflects Brunswick values - ideas that value diversity, compassion and community. The Brunswick Baths offers a supportive environment for people of all ages, offers women only bathing, and free recreation for asylum seekers. It makes an important contribution to the health and wellbeing of our community. You can support the campaign to secure funding in a number of ways:
