Fair Trial for David Hicks

Major Michael Dante Mori is David Hicks’ US Marine defence attorney. Major Mori was a guest of the Victorian parliament today. He gave a terrific presentation on the David Hicks case and his continued detainment at Guantanamo Bay. Hicks is classified as an enemy combatant and has become a person denied his rights including the rights of prisoners of war under the Geneva Convention.

Save Brunswick Baths

The Brunswick Baths were opened in 1914 and have served our community and generations of Brunswick residents and families since. It has a long and prestigious history, having once been considered as a venue for the 1956 Olympic Games. The Baths are an integral part of Brunswick and an important community asset, and must be saved.

Music Festival Time

As February inches closer to March all thoughts in Brunswick turn to our Music Festival. This year the festival kicks off on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of March with the annual free concert at the Coburg Town Hall followed on Sunday by the Street Party.

I'll be holding an ALP stall outside the Brunswick Town Hall as usual.

In the past some people have wanted the festival defunded, but now in its 19th year it is more popular then ever and adds greatly to community life and economic prosperity.

Come along and support our local festival.

More Transport Services & a Fare Freeze

More Tram Services from next week

Train commuters struggling with cancellations will now have an extra three months travelling at 2006 prices with annual CPI public transport fare increases to be frozen until Sunday 3 June, 2007.

The price freeze is on top of the addition of at least 40 extra trams and up to 100 extra buses, which will provide hundreds of additional peak services until train services increase.

Back to School 2007 - Some Facts

Victorian government schools have resumed for 2007 - here are some facts about 2007.

40,000 teachers
536,900 students
1,100 new teachers
Three new schools including the Coburg Senior High School
1,597 government schools, inlduing 1,207 primary and 258 secondary
203 government schools in the northern metropolitan region, inlcuding 143 primary and 40 secondary

Government schools might be under attack from right wing ideologues in the press but parents know that they are a great place to send their children for their education.
